Dubai? It’s all about lifestyle- Cose da fare e vedere a Dubai

Come state? Lo so, sono stata assente per qualche settimana 🙂 ma la fine dell’anno si avvicina e ci sono ancora tante, tante cose da chiudere prima di arrivare all’ultimo giorno di questo intensissimo 2015.

Quindi, sempre sulla scia del “ritardo  perenne” e del “done is better than perfect” (sono proprio Alice che rincorre il Bianconiglio..non c’e’ nulla da fare!),eccomi qui con un travel post, per parlarvi di uno dei viaggi che ho fatto di recente e, che, come sempre, non potevo esimermi dal condividere con voi: Dubai.

How are you? I know, I haven’t written for a while, but the year end is coming soon and there are still many, many things I need to close up before  I get  to the last day of this quite hectic 2015.
So, even if with a massive  delay and considering that “done is always better than perfect” ( sometimes I truly feel like Alice in wonderland running behind the white rabbit), here I am with my travel post to talk to you about one of my most recent travels, which I couldn’t avoid sharing with you: Dubai.

Dubai e’ solo lifestyle, questo e’quello che mi sento di dire, il che significa che essendo un posto completamente nuovo (e in costante evoluzione) e non avendo molto di storico- culturale, non c’e’ troppo da vedere o visitare, si tratta piu’ che altro di fare esperienze in club, ristoranti, shopping mall, golf club e locali di lusso. Dovessi descriverla in tre parole direi: lusso,shopping, fake.

Definirei Dubai una Las Vegas con il mare. Mi ha entusiasmata? Forse non troppo, senz’altro meno di tanti altri posti in cui sono stata piu’o meno di recente. Tuttavia, come dico sempre: non esiste un posto nel mondo che non valga la pena di vedere almeno una sola volta nella vita, quindi..a voi il mio racconto di uno dei weekend lunghi piu’ intensi che abbia mai trascorso.

Sono andata a Dubai in occasione del matrimonio di una mia amica, la quale ha deciso di celebrare le nozze li’ per due giorni consecutivi (rito indiano il primo giorno, rito standard il secondo).

Non sono mancati i soliti “imprevisti” che mi hanno vista trasformarmi in un personaggio a meta’ tra Bridget Jones e Samantha di Sex and the City, tipo:

1.Per la stanchezza mi sono dimenticata di ritirare la valigia dal rullo e me no sono accorta solo quando ero gia’ uscita dall’aereoporto (vi lascio immaginare il panico)

2. Mi sono infilata un vestito indecente dimenticandomi “per un attimo” di essere in un paese musulmano. Senz’altro abituato a ricevere un alto numero di occidentali e di conseguenza a tollerare una serie di cose, ma insomma..un tubino strapless cortissimo forse non era proprio il caso.

3. Mentre cercavo di trovare la mia stanza (dato che il Park Hyatt, e’ peggio di un labirinto), sono inciampata su una persona che stava pregando nel bel mezzo del corridoio

4. Sono rimasta chiusa fuori sul terrazzo della mia camera, senza telefono e in costume grazie ad un simpatico errore del personale dell’Hotel(happy days!)

Detto cio’, Come vi accennavo, abbiamo alloggiato nel meraviglioso Park Hyatt, un resort di lusso dall’eleganza senza pari, che si erige a fianco del famoso Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.

Dubai it’s “just lifestyle” to me: completely new (and constantly developing) with no historical/cultural sightseeing to visit, it’s all about experience the luxury lifestyle. Everything is extremely high end in Dubai (including the service everywhere): clubs, restaurants, shopping malls and golf clubs tend to be absolutely top notch.

I would call it: a “kind of” Las Vegas by the sea. Despite the fact that, as you know, I do like luxury things, it didn’t excited me too much, certainly less than many other places I’ve been to. However, as I always say: there is no place in the world that isn’t worth seeing at least once in a lifetime, sooo..here it is my story as well as tips and tricks about Dubai in case you will be spending some time there at some point.

The reason why I went to Dubai it was the wedding of one of my closest friends, who has decided to celebrate a two days long wedding there. There has been an indian ceremony on the first day and a “standard” one the day after.

As usual, there have been a number of “unexpected” things which happened to me, which made feel like someone in between Bridget Jones and Samantha from Sex and the City, such as:

1. Considering that I was very tired, I forgot to pick up the suitcase once landed and I realized it when I was already out of the airport

2. I put on a “slightly” too sexy dress, completely forgetting that I was in a Muslim country, certainly accustomed to some of the Westerners habits and therefore tolerant towards a number of things, but still..a very very short strapless dress maybe it wasnt a good idea really (so the results was that everyone was literally staring at me to the point that I had to change my outfit as I couldnt stand it anymore).

3. Whilst I was trying to find my room (as the Park Hyatt Hotel it’s kind of a labyrinth), I trippedon a person who was praying in the middle of the hotel corridors

4. I got locked out on the balcony of my room, with no phone and wearing only my swimsuit, thanks to a lovely mistake of the hotel staff (can you believe it?)

Un’oasi di vere e proprie coccole circondata dal mare e dal verde, what else? Il servizio in generale e’ ottimo: che abbiate voglia di macarons, gelati, limonate, dei giornali dell’ultim’ora o di qualunque altra cosa possiate mai aver bisogno/voglia di (e in qualunque momento), ci sara’ sempre qualcuno pronto a portarvelo. Dopo aver trascorso una settimana in questo hotel sarete completamente viziati.

An oasis where to truly pamper yourself whilst being surrounded by the sea and relaxing greenery so, what else could you ask for? The overall service was impressive: macaroons, ice cream, soft drinks, last hour newspapers and anything else I needed/desired (at any time), there was always someone there ready to bring it to you. Trust me, After spending a week in this hotel you come back totally spoiled.

Di camere ce ne sono 225, 35 sono invece le suites, tutte rigorosamente con vasca e prodotti di lusso a disposizione per trascorrere al meglio il vostro “me time” lontano dalla confusione e dallo stress della routine.

It has 225 rooms and 35 suites, all with a lovely bath and luxury products available to let you enjoying your “me time” away from the noise and stress of your daily routine.

Il Park Hyatt e’ molto piu’ di un qualunque hotel di lusso, nel senso che al suo interno c’e’ cosi’ tanto da non aver quasi bisogno di uscire: piscina, parrucchiere (dove se siete di fretta potreste trovarvi, come la sottoscritta, a farvi fare la messa in piega anche da tre persone in contemporanea) spa, ristoranti, terrazze sulle quali prendere il sole o anche soltanto ammirare meravigliosi tramonti.

The Park Hyatt is much more than just a luxury hotel, as there is so much to do inside it that you almost don’t need to go out: swimming pool, beauty salon and spa(and if you’re in a hurry, as it happened to me, you might find yourself getting styled by three people at the same time), restaurants, terraces where to sunbath, chill out or just enjoying amazing sunsets (literally my favourite one).

Specialmente l’Amara Spa supererà ogni vostra aspettativa. Dispone di otto sale per trattamenti privati con un concierge dedicato che personalizzerà al 100% la vostra esperienza applicando le antiche tecniche che sfruttano gli effetti benefici di pietre come il Diamante, lo Smeraldo, il Rubino e lo Zaffiro.

Il momento piu’ bello della giornata e’ senza dubbio la colazione: tra waffles, uova strapazzate,frutta fresca, marmellata fatta in casa, muffin e altri triliardi di dolci e ricette, c’e’ veramente l’imbarazzo della scelta. Ogni giorno vengono proposte diverse opzioni “a la carte” sia in versione ‘normale’ che light (avete mai sentito parlare di pancakes integrali? )

Especially the spa called Amara will surely exceed your expectations. It features eight private treatment rooms with a dedicated concierge who will 100% customize your experience by applying the ancient techniques based on the beneficial effects of Diamond, Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire stones.

The best moment of the day is undoubtedly the breakfast: waffles, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, homemade marmalade, muffins and much more will be there for you.

Everyday there are also several dishes available “a la carte” in both standard and organic/fat free ingredients.

Il primo giorno lo abbiamo passato in giro con un autista privato (cosa che se siete almeno in tre vi consiglio, dato che verra’ senz’ altro a costare di meno di un biglietto per il famoso “drop on/drop off bus”).

Non e’ possibile infatti muoversi senza avere una macchina,un po’ per il caldo ed un po’ perche’ praticamente non esistono vere e proprie strade pedonali.
Questa e’ senz’altro una delle cose che ha contribuito a non farmi amare del tutto questa citta’: a me piacciono i posti in cui puoi fermarti a fotografare ed incantarti ad osservare i particolari che ti piacciono, senza necessariamente avere lo sguardo filtrato dal vetro di un finestrino.

Vi consiglio di visitare almeno un paio di moschee (controllate pero’ sempre prima orari di apertura e chiusura), perche’ sono molto belle. Jumeira Mosque e’ senza dubbio una di quelle da non perdere (vi consiglio di passarci davanti sia di giorno che di notte).

In Dubai isn’t possible to go around without a car as there aren’t pedestrian streets where you actually walk.
This is clearly one of the reasons why I don’t really love this city that much: I like places where I can have long walks and stop here and there to take pictures and observe those details I like the most without necessarily having my sight filtered by the glass of a window.

I recommend you visit at least a couple of mosques ( would also suggest to double check opening and closing times first),cause they are beautiful. Jumeira Mosque is with no doubt one of those not to be missed (I recommend you pass by it both during the day and at night).

Uno stop al Burj Al Arab (l’iconica “vela”) e una passeggiata sulla spiaggia di Dubai Marina, sono d’obbligo. Lungo la spiaggia si estende una striscia pedonale(finalmente una!)ricca di coffe bars e ristoranti a prezzi piuttosto ragionevoli ed una manciata di hotel.

A stop at the iconic Burj Al Arab and a walk on Dubai Marina beach are a must. Along the beach runs The Walk, a strip designed for pedestrians and those that want to cruise in their Ferraris, full of reasonably priced cafe’s and restaurants and a smattering of hotels.

Una splendida view della citta’ puo’ essere ammirata dal bar all’ultimo piano dell’elegantissimo Jumeira Beach Hotel, dove abbiamo fatto un aperitivo: del resto sapete che sono un’appassionata di panorami notturni 🙂 )

From the rooftop of the Jumeira Beach Hotel you can enjoy a stunning view of the city. Obviously I convinced my friends to have drinks there: you know I love panoramic by night views :))

Giusto per inserire una “pillola di moda” per i drinks in questa terrazza super luxury ho scelto questo vestito di Just Cavalli (piuttosto sexy direi).

And to give you just a little “fashion” hint within this lifestyle summary, this is the Just Cavalli dress I’ve chosen for our night out. Do you like it?

Dopo l’aperitivo si sa, c’e’ sempre la cena e il ristorante prescelto e’ stato il sudamericano Coya : davvero molto buono e ottimi anche il servizio e la scelta di dessert.

After the aperitif and the lovely view of the city, it was time to have dinner so our choice has been the south american cuisine restaurant Coya: the food and the service were both great (and I love the chocolate tart dessert).

Come indicato anche in tutte le piu’ importanti guide di Dubai, il park Hyatt ospita il sofisticato ristorante Francese Le Traiteur,dove e’ possibile gustare uno dei migliori brunch di tutta Dubai. Delizie come broccoli al vapore ripieni, diversi tipi di pasta e specialita’ di pesce, sono solo alcune delle opzioni disponibili, oltre alla vasta gamma di dolci. Un paio id alternative a Le Traiteur per il brunch sono Saffron e il giapponese Zuma.

As indicated in the most important Dubai travel guides, the Park Hyatt hosts a sophisticated french restaurant, called Le Traiteur where you will enjoy one of the best brunches across the whole city. Delicious dishes such as stuffed broccoli cooked with ove, several types of pasta and specialties of fish are just some of the available options, in addition to a wide range of cakes and desserts. A couple of alternative places where have brunch are Saffron or the Japanese Zuma.

Qualora poi foste stanchi del caldo e voleste invece, che so,sciare (eh gia’,ho detto sciare), potreste fare un salto al Mall of Emirates,dove potrete provare l’esperienza unica dell’indoor ski.

Sempre presso il Mall of Emirates, ho avuto il piacere di provare il ristorante libanese Burji al Haman : cibo e servizio di livello piuttosto alto seppur a prezzi non troppo alti.

Per quanto concerne lo shopping non si puo’ di certo definire ‘economico’,i prezzi, anche rispetto a Londra sono molto piu’ alti, benche’ in molti casi brand e collezioni siano davvero identiche.

…e cosi’ sono quindi arrivata quasi alla fine del post, felicissima di aver condiviso con voi un altro pezzo di mondo.

In case you were tired of the heat and wanted instead, skiing? (oh yes, I did say skiing :)), you could head off to the Mall of Emirates, where you can enjoy a unique experience of indoor ski.

Still at the Mall of Emirates, I tried a Lebanese restaurant Burji to Haman, where both food and service can definitely be rated as high even if the prices weren’t too high.

Shopping wise, you cannot call it “cheap” anywhere in Dubai as it is all very expensive, even when, if you compare the collections with the ones which you would find in London, they are absolutely the same.

… Soo,I got the latest bit of my post today, as usual feeling very happy to have shared with you another little piece of the world as seen it from my eyes.

PS: Se vi capita di visitare Dubai e di avere piu’ tempo di me, vi suggerirei di fare un salto ad Abu Dhabi,anche se soltanto per tre ore perche’ ne vale la pena.
